Health drinks market under surveillance

May 2013 Surveillance

The market for healthier bottled beverages is in various different economic stages throughout the world. On one hand, in the US, it is established and still-growing, with new products vying for monthly shelf space. In Vietnam, on the other hand, this market is in an earlier stage, but shows great economic promise and growth potential.

In Vietnam, the Tan Hiep Phat Beverage Group (THP), is on the leading edge of this drink revolution and is also the overall market leader. In fact, various lines of this company’s health-centric products even outsell offerings from global giants such as Coca-Cola and Pepsi. In many respects, THP is reshaping how the Vietnamese consumer chooses what to drink.

Headquartered in Binh Duong (near the nation’s most populous city, Ho Chi Minh City), THP’s business offices are connected to the company’s main factory facility. Impressive as this compound is, November, 2011, brought another landmark first: it represents the greatest number of surveillance cameras for a single security project in Vietnam’s history.

Backbone of the solution

Wimax Communications, Hikvision’s authorised distributor in Vietnam (and a consultant on this project that was responsible for designing the overall network, recording system, and VMS software), selected 860 Hikvision IP cameras to form the backbone of this solution.

Making up the bulk of these at 440 units is Hikvision’s DS-2CD754FWD-EI 2MP WDR Network Dome Camera. Using a 1/3-inch progressive scan CMOS, 120 dB of wide dynamic range, up to 2 megapixel (1920 x 1080) resolution, full HD 1080P real-time video, a day/night auto switch, 20m IR LED optional, and vandal-proof housing; the DS-2CD754FWD-EI 2MP WDR is located throughout the 6000 square metres of office space, 7500 square metres of factory space and the 46 000 square metres of warehouse space.

Dinh Nguyen, MD at Wimax Communications, explains, “We placed this WDR dome at virtually every location throughout this large facility. We chose the DS-2CD754FWD-EI 2MP WDR because it provides an excellent picture with great clarity, a vital requirement for this project. Specifically, this wide dynamic range feature allows us more options in placing cameras throughout the facility. With most cameras, we would be very hesitant to use them in lighting situations that drastically change; but with Hikvision’s WDR, we’re not worried about shadows or even intense backlight.”

IP66 in second place

At 252 individual units, Hikvision’s DS-2CD8253F-EI 2MP IR Bullet Camera is the second most represented camera. Nguyen notes, “The DS-2CD8253F-EI 2MP is located both indoors and outdoors, so IP66 weather-proof rating is absolutely critical. This camera has up to 30 metres of IR range, so we are able to place it along the factory’s walls, as well as at both entrances and exits – providing excellent coverage.”

Since the DS-2CD8253F-EI 2MP is also located outdoors, a true day/night feature ensures time of day is not an issue. Furthermore, 2 megapixel high resolution, HD720p real-time video recording, and ePTZ control guarantee it is easy-to-use and provides a high-quality experience.

The DS-2CD853F-E 2MP Network Camera represents an additional 92 units of these IP cameras. Features such as up to 2 megapixel resolution, H.264/MPEG4/MJPEG video compression, a 1/3-inch progressive scan CMOS, true day/night, SD/SDHC card slot, and optional WiFi give “this camera the ability to accurately zoom onto both objects and people throughout the general factory areas,” Nguyen notes. “It does not matter if we are interested in a particular box of products, or someone’s face, we can see both perfectly with this model.”

44 units of the DS-2CD8153F-E 2MP Network Cube Camera secure office areas. In this case, the DS-2CD8153F-E 2MP’s internal microphone and speaker plays an important role and provides an additional level of security. Nguyen notes “this camera’s ability to record audio is perfect for internal areas where important business matters are discussed.”

In this solution, audio data is kept for 30 days in the facility’s security centre, allowing a strong insurance that any potential misunderstanding can be quickly and accurately resolved. As with the other cameras, this model owns a 1/3-inch progressive scan CMOS, H.264/MPEG4/MJPEG video compression, up to 2 megapixel resolution, HD 720P real-time video, as well as a day/night auto switch, and optional Wi-Fi functionality.

Comprising 35 units is the final piece of this camera puzzle: Hikvision’s DS-2DF1-572 1,3 MP Network High Speed Dome. Powerful PTZ control, 3D intelligent positioning functionality, and 18x optical zoom make this the perfect camera to protect THP’s warehouse facilities. “360 degrees of pan provides a wide view of coverage and the ability to instantly check on issues such as finished goods,” Nguyen explains.

Additionally, the DS-2DF1-572 1.3 MP uses its IP66 weatherproof rating and a programmable alarm trigger to guard the warehouse’s adjacent outdoor perimeter areas, as well as entrance and exit gates in the facility.

One more piece

While each camera has a role to play, one more tool was needed to round out this Hikvision solution: the DS-6101HFI-IP Digital Video Server.

Totalling 340 units, the DS-6101HFI-IP connects all the existing analogue cameras to the security professionals. It features H.264 video compression with high performance DSP hardware, embedded Linux OS, dual stream, and up to 4CIF resolution real-time recording.
