Ballistic safe rooms

1 April 2013 Security Services & Risk Management

Ruukki has designed a new Ramor protection panel, which is an innovative new approach to create safe rooms and fixed structures with superior resistance to explosions and ballistic threats. The panel also has excellent multi-hit capability and offers a modular, dimensionally accurate solution for advanced ballistic protection needs.

Ramor protection panel has a special laser-welded sandwich core between two Ramor protection steel sheets. The panel is a light-structured, ready self-supporting robust building element, which is easy to install.

Its modular flat-pack system allows structures to be assembled and dismantled rapidly and easily, time and time again. Highly practical, the design of Ramor protection panel also makes the modular construction of temporary buildings in sensitive locations quick and hassle-free. There is no need for on-site welding during assembly.

Typical applications include border control and security gate buildings, as well as modular citadels, panic rooms and other fixed structures where the potential for ballistic and blast attacks must be addressed, but where the scope for constructing heavy duty, permanent buildings is often impractical.

“Ramor protection panel can be used for citadels or safe rooms, which should be a feature of any vessel sailing through high risk waters. A citadel is a stronghold in which the ship’s crew can hide and stay safe in the event of a pirate attack. Citadels can also provide an important safety feature on oil and gas drilling platforms to protect against the pressure effects of explosions,” says Jani Kastell, sales manager, Ramor.

Ramor protection panels have been tested to comply with the world’s most important ballistic and blast standards, including EN 1522 and Stanag 4659. By successfully passing these tests, Ramor offers proven protection against a variety of different types of gunfire, including multiple high velocity rounds from an AK-47 (7,62 mm).
