PIR occupancy detectors

With energy efficiency and energy saving to reduce carbon emissions becoming more critical, Schneider Electric South Africa has introduced a new high quality, reliable range of ultra-sensitive energy saving occupancy sensors for homes, hotels and businesses.

The sensors offer a combination of infrared and ultrasonic detection technologies with simple programming via an infrared remote controller, to deliver measurable energy savings on a variety of lighting loads, such as incandescent lamps, AC halogen lamps, LV halogen lamps and fluorescent lamps.

A ceiling mounted passive infrared (PIR) with segmented lens is available for dividing coverage areas into easy-to-monitor occupancy zones and is ideal for detection of walking and other motions in small enclosed spaces with high movement levels.

“Ultrasonic ceiling mounted detectors detect occupancy by monitoring the frequency shifts caused by minor moments such as typing or reading,” explains Christo Janse van Rensburg, production application engineer at Schneider Electric South Africa. “As an unobstructed line of sight is not required, these units are ideal for offices with cubicles or restrooms with stalls.”

Ceiling mounted dual technology occupancy sensors combine both passive infrared and ultrasonic technologies to ensure maximum effectiveness for all potential application areas using PIR major motion and minor motion detectors that can be surface mounted or flush mounted.

Typical applications include office executive rooms, open offices, private offices, general workspace, office areas with cubicles, open plan areas, canteens, computer rooms, conference rooms, photocopying rooms, filing rooms, rest rooms, stairwells, warehouses, loading docks, classrooms, day care centres, hotel rooms, hallways and common areas. The sensors also facilitate energy efficiency in new buildings and retrofits.
