Smart port monitoring and automated container tracking

April 2026 AI & Data Analytics, Surveillance, Logistics (Industry)

A leading shipping port set out to improve visibility, security, and operational efficiency across its site, turning to an advanced monitoring solution powered by Axxon PSIM.

To achieve full situational awareness, strategically placed overview cameras were installed across the port, providing a clear, real-time view of operations. At key entry and exit points, a more focused system was implemented. This included a combination of overview cameras, ANPR (automatic number plate recognition), and dedicated container identification cameras. Together, these technologies capture both vehicle registration details and the associated trailer or container numbers.

Using intelligent video analytics, the system automatically links each truck’s license plate with its corresponding container or trailer. This creates a seamless, automated tracking process for every vehicle entering the port. The system can also accurately count the number of containerised trucks moving through the facility, offering valuable insight into daily operations.

At exit points, the same process ensures full traceability confirming exactly which trucks leave the port and which containers they carry. All captured data is consolidated into detailed daily reports, which are automatically distributed to stakeholders each morning.

This integrated approach has significantly enhanced both security and accountability, while reducing the need for manual processes. By delivering reliable, real-time tracking and actionable insights, the solution has transformed how the port manages and monitors its operations setting a new standard for efficiency and control in high-volume environments.
