Remote monitoring made easy

Issue 3 2025 Products & Solutions

In South Africa, security is essential, but power and connectivity are not always guaranteed. A new product from Links Field Networks provides peace of mind: the fully wireless P5 Plus Solar outdoor PTZ (pan-tilt-zoom) camera.

This 4G, solar-powered smart camera is designed for security monitoring in remote areas. Agriculture, livestock, and game reserves are just some of the verticals that could benefit from the wireless device. Links Field Networks takes this camera a step further by bundling it with a 4G data package for ease of use.

This wireless connectivity, combined with the P5 Plus’s robust build quality, provides next-level reliability, a critical factor for remote monitoring, where access is limited. The local branch of Links Field Networks provides this wireless connectivity through its partnership with Otto Wireless Solutions. The company is an international provider of IoT smart connectivity, in which Otto has a 25% stake.

Links Field Networks partners with mainstream wireless module manufacturers, global tier 1 mobile network operators, and wireless chipset suppliers to provide flexible connectivity packages at wholesale data rates. Through this partnership, Links Field Networks provides its clients with all-in-one connectivity solutions consisting of hardware, a SIM card, an antenna (if required), and support.

The P5 Plus is Otto’s first bundled offering. Buyers can choose between 1 GB, 3 GB, and 6 GB of data pre-loaded with the camera. Once the data is depleted, users can simply scan a QR code and pick a new bundle size.

4G solar-powered P5 Plus camera

The P5 Plus is a fully wireless camera that offers LTE and 4G connectivity. It gives you remote access from any spot with mobile connectivity; there is no need for Wi-Fi or a fancy router. Its IP65 rating ensures it can endure the outdoors, while a 7 W solar panel, its ultra-low power consumption, and 8000 mAh battery, keep it powered come rain or sunshine.

The P5 Plus offers extensive capabilities, including human detection, infrared night vision, full-colour night vision, and a light to scare away intruders when they are detected. It can also pan 270 degrees, tilt 90 degrees, and zoom for extensive coverage across a large area, ensuring you do not miss a thing.

Furthermore, the 4G connectivity lets you store recordings in the cloud (with automatic cloud storage of movement detection events), while a local 64 GB microSD card (included) can store days of historical footage.
