Elvey to distribute Tiandy

November 2024 Editor's Choice, Surveillance, News & Events

Tiandy Technologies is no stranger to the African market, but it has not achieved the brand status and number of installations of many international brands in the local market. Notwithstanding, it is a global brand, ranked seventh worldwide in the surveillance industry. It is used at various locations, including London’s Heathrow Airport, the Olympic Games, and in over 500 smart cities.

This lack of attention to the South African market took a turn for the better when Forbatt announced it was importing the brand into the country earlier this year. The brand’s presence has been given another boost with the announcement in November that Elvey Security Technologies will be distributing a broad range of Tiandy equipment through its channel partners and providing project assistance.

Launched country-wide on the same day, SMART Security Solutions attended the Johannesburg launch to learn more.

Covering the bases

The first point to note about Tiandy is that it covers all areas of the surveillance market, from wireless home cameras to enterprise-level solutions. It provides its own video management platform (VMS), either as a software solution that can handle up to 5000 ‘surveillance points’, called Easy 7 CMS, or integrated hardware servers that can manage up to 2000 channels with Easy 7 built-in. Naturally, there are smaller storage options available as well. Tiandy also offers a range of video analytics, enhanced by AI in many cases (depending on the series purchased).

There are various camera ranges within the Tiandy portfolio. Starting out, the AK Series replaces AHD (analogue high definition) cameras and offers better performance, 2 MP resolution, easy installation, a web interface and PoE connections. The cameras also sport a built-in microphone (as do all Tiandy cameras), IR illumination and security. The cameras support smart motion detection, and the NVRs can be set to record only when motion is detected. A 2-year warranty is offered on this series.

The Spark Series comes in 2 or 4 MP resolutions and includes IR and a microphone. The dual-sensor bullet cameras offer a 180-degree view and can be individually adjusted. They only require one network cable. The top end of Tiandy cameras includes up to 8 MP resolution.

For low-light environments, Tiandy has developed its Colormaker low-light technology. This allows for colour images to be captured in very low light (0.02 lux) and can include tripwire, perimeter and motion detection analytics.

The Polar Day camera Elvey distributes offers 4 MP colour images 24x7. It also includes two AI chipsets for enhanced analytics. One chipset is used for analytics, including classification (human, car, etc.), while the other monitors the video stream down to pixel level for optimal analytics of the scene under surveillance.

Panoramic cameras are also available, incorporating various features mentioned above, sporting 2 MP or 4 MP sensors for broad coverage. The images captured by the sensors in each camera are fused to deliver a clear 180-degree view.

Elvey will also be making wireless Tiandy cameras available soon.

Storage and management

As noted, Tiandy has a range of storage and management options available, including a mobile app. It has NVR options for each range, from the AK up, with different models for different requirements. Users can also purchase various servers, as well as the K1000 or K2000 all-in-one systems, which support 1000 or 2000 channels and include the VMS.

The Easy 7 VMS (software) is free for up to 512 channels and offers multiple features and functionality, including built-in reports. Licences are naturally available for more channels for those looking to install the VMS on their own hardware.

Integration

Users with existing surveillance hardware or software can integrate Tiandy into their current infrastructure as the systems conform to ONVIF standards, except for the 10-channel NVRs. These NVRs are input conformant, but not output conformant when, for example, sending video from these devices to another VMS. The other products, including cameras, are ONVIF compliant to various profiles (www.onvif.org/conformant-products/).

Elvey also highlighted the ability to integrate Tiandy products with the QX Infinity detectors from Optex. For example, when the Optex detectors raise the alarm, Tiandy cameras can easily be used for visual verification.
