Watermist suppression systems are designed to meet mining fire suppression needs with precision and efficiency. They generate fine droplets with an increased surface area, enabling rapid heat absorption and cooling during fire incidents. This technology is highly effective in suppressing flames and controlling heat spread, especially in confined spaces commonly found in mining environments.
Unlike traditional water-based systems, watermist systems use significantly less water, reducing the risk of short-circuiting and damage to sensitive equipment such as electrical panels and conveyor belts. Watermist systems utilise a three-pronged approach to fire suppression:
• Cooling: The mist absorbs heat, rapidly lowering temperatures and quenching the fire.
• Oxygen displacement: As water converts to steam at a 1750:1 expansion ratio, it displaces oxygen, suffocating the fire.
• Heat radiation attenuation: The mist forms a barrier, preventing the fire from spreading to non-ignited surfaces.
Once the system is manually or automatically activated, the supply unit feeds water and pressurised nitrogen into the piping. Flow regulators within the water cylinders create a pulsating mixture that travels to strategically placed nozzles. These nozzles atomise the water into a dynamic mist, delivering efficient fire suppression exactly where needed.
With its targeted suppression, minimal water usage, and reduced risk to equipment, a Watermist suppression system is an optimal fire protection solution for the mining industry.
