SMART Security Solutions starts day two of the Securex Seminar Theatre (12 June 2024 at 10:00 am) with a presentation from Christopher Galvin on behalf of the International Code of Conduct Association (ICoCA).
ICoCA is a multi-stakeholder initiative formed in 2013 to ensure that providers of private security services respect human rights and humanitarian law. It serves as the governance and oversight mechanism of the International Code of Conduct for Private Security Service Providers.
As more investors ask difficult questions of their portfolios about compliance with the ‘social’ elements within ESG, this presentation focuses on a hidden and high-risk area of ESG: private security contracting. The presentation will consider the types of material risk and salient human rights risks private security provision can pose and, conversely, how responsible service providers can positively contribute to ESG compliance.
Galvin will also discuss the steps investors and portfolio companies can take to ensure that private security service providers adhere to responsible practices and minimise material and human rights risks. In addition, he will offer some practical tools to help with human rights due diligence on private security providers.
