Secure vehicle access control

Most methods used for parking and access control leave the driver exposed and vulnerable in front of the gate or boom. Traditional access cards, biometric finger or hand scanners and QR codes require drivers to stop, wind down their windows and reach out to the scanner. This creates an easy target for hijacking a vehicle.

Techsolutions developed a solution called RFID-Access which uses a microchip in the windscreen to identify a vehicle and allow access. In addition to drivers not having to wind down windows, it also enables vehicles to pass through booms without having to come to a complete stop. As a result, RFID-Access has been popular with large estates, mines and logistic companies as it enables a high traffic flow in addition to enhancing security.

While the reported incidents have been low, clients have expressed a concern that thieves could steal a vehicle inside the premise and that the RFID-Access system would allow the stolen vehicle to leave the premise. Techsolutions therefore added an enhancement to the RFID-Access solution that enables the driver to pre-authorise the vehicle to exit the site, using a phone app. This prevents a stolen or unauthorised vehicle from leaving the premise. In addition, the app enables parking patrons to view their account balance as well as topping up.
