Successful show for body-worn tech

Issue 7 2022 Residential Estate (Industry)

The Residential Estate Security conference provided Commercial ICT (CICT, an Elvey Group company and part of the Hudaco Group of companies) with the ideal opportunity to introduce the HALO range of body worn cameras and accessories to the attendees.

“We had many enquiries from the delegates and we even secured a proof of concept (POC) that one of our partners would like us to undertake at an estate they had identified. The representatives from this estate have expressed great excitement that they are one of the first estates in Johannesburg to experience this technology,” says Charleen Rheeder, national operations manager at CICT.

The fully customisable HALO Horizon Series body camera is designed to suit the specific requirements of security operators. The IP68-certified waterproof camera allows 16 hours of continuous recording and is livestream-enabled. The wide angle (140°) starlight lens utilises de-warp technology with zero image distortion, and provides clear images even in complete darkness.

Other features of the camera include fast charging via the self-locating magnetic charging dock – eliminating the need for cables, and the on-board sync means that footage is automatically offloaded without the need for computers/cables/docks. The HALO Horizon is GPS-enabled, with the Glonass technology allowing instant positioning and location feedback.

At only 73 g and with dimensions of 52 mm (H) x 42 mm (W) x 18 mm (D), the HALO NanoCam is an extremely lightweight and compact body worn camera. It allows for 12 hours of continuous recording, and with its 1080P full HD resolution, provides crystal clear evidential footage.

HALO Aware automatically pairs to any HALO Horizon BodyCam within a 9.1-metre radius and activates these cameras into record mode once a police officer draws their firearm, baton or taser. HALO’s geo-fencing technology triggers supporting officers’ body cameras as they arrive on the scene to capture a chained series of BodyCam footage, providing complete situational awareness.

The HALO Vault is a bespoke digital asset management software for storing, viewing, and streaming a wide range of multimedia types in one secure cloud-based environment. It provides safe storage for files and allows secure sharing of files (including metadata) with external users. Video access is audited with usernames, times and actions. Non-evidential files can be set to auto-delete after a configurable time period.

Rheeder believes that there is a need for education on cybersecurity and smart analytics in residential estates. “We are perfectly positioned to assist estates with solutions that encompass these elements. We have a skill set that turns the focus away from product and towards services, to ensure that products are secure and no hacker will be able to infiltrate your network. This will in turn assist in making more security companies PoPIA compliant.
