Avoiding human error at ports

Issue 6 2022 Transport (Industry), Surveillance, Products & Solutions, Logistics (Industry)

A human error is an action or decision which was not intended. Due to human error, one of the largest ports in South Africa was faced with a massive data challenge. Incorrect information had been filed or paperwork relevant to containers and truck numbers that were coming in had been lost.

To help overcome this challenge, LD Africa introduced it to the AxxonSoft Port Security System, a solution that would help overcome the element of human error and eliminate paperwork.

AxxonSoft makes tracking and monitoring of port consignments easy. The solution works by using IP cameras to record once a truck has exited or entered the port. The cameras will capture the licence plate and link the plate to the container number. With this solution, ports no longer need to use paperwork and manual labour to capture this information in a spreadsheet.

A server plus dedicated storage was installed at the site and, in addition, Milesight IP cameras were chosen for their high image quality for video recording. A special module for counting the trucks was designed to feed off data provided by infrared and inductive sensors which are placed at the gate of the port to record trucks’ movements.

With this solution, workers at ports can also search a particular container number and the AxxonSoft platform is able to communicate exactly when a truck came into the port and send this information through to the client immediately.

As a result, the port now has a professional, enterprise-class security system. The Intellect PSIM-powered system fully meets the client’s requirements and has proven itself effective at preventing manual capturing of the containers and trucks.
