Video surveillance and the cloud

CCTV Handbook 2022 Surveillance, Infrastructure

CCTV technology has evolved immensely over the years from being used in World II to now, offering advanced AI video surveillance to the physical security industry.

Video surveillance can provide footage of incidents happening and serves as an extra set of eyes, providing evidence of an event that took place. This allows undisputed surveillance of the event and is also the first source for authorities to investigate crime, and can also serve as a deterrent for certain crimes.

However, in most cases CCTV serves as a ‘behind the fact’ resource used after an event has taken place, and will only add value during the investigation of a historical incident. Most of the incidents are either missed or not picked up by the operator staring at multiple screens with various activities happening.

The introduction of Cloud Video Recorder technology from Secutel Technologies has changed the physical security market dramatically. This technology uses all existing investments in CCTV technology and through the use of an edge device and a software platform provides analytical and proactive capabilities to standard IP or analog surveillance systems. The system is monitored remotely and based on exceptions or events, and snapshots are encrypted and compressed and sent directly to a camera via the cloud to a control centre. The footage is available in the cloud to be accessed from anywhere at any time.
