Gunnebo launches social distancing manager

Issue 8 2020 Retail (Industry)

Gunnebo has launched OccuLinq, a new social distancing tool that supports the smooth return to a safe shopping environment by providing automated occupancy control and ensuring the number of customers in a physical space never exceeds a maximum limit.

With Gunnebo’s OccuLinq software, retail managers enjoy real-time data on customer numbers at their fingertips. When a maximum occupancy level is reached, gates can lock temporarily until another customer has left the store, after which a new customer is free to enter. Automated customer flow maximises social distancing and thereby minimises infection risks.

OccuLinq offers automatic adherence to social distancing occupancy guidelines and regulations. There is no need for staff at store entrances, while friction-free and transparent occupancy control minimises possibilities for confrontation between customers and staff.

The OccuLinq solution, when used with other Gunnebo products, provides live occupancy data direct to a mobile phone app, tablet or PC screen. The app works in combination with the following products:

• OccuSense stereo cameras that count people without storing personal data, making them fully GDPR (and PoPIA) compliant. OccuSense accurately counts the number of people passing through and sends the relevant information to the OccuLinq app. Occupancy levels are then automatically updated and available remotely.

• OccuSign digital display informs waiting customers of occupancy availability, while reassuring shoppers that the store takes their safety seriously. The digital screen at the point of entry is constantly updated by the OccuLinq app and gives a clear indicator of the remaining free capacity to customers waiting outside. By using an automatic update, the customer welcome notification is instantaneous, entry/exit flows are optimised and customer volumes are always maximised.

• Access control speed gates regulate the flow of customers. One-way flow control and detection capabilities result in proven reduced shrinkage. Synced with OccuLinq, they allow maximum occupancy automation, providing contactless technology to facilitate social distancing protocols.

OccuLinq can also automate social distancing measures that assist with infection mitigation strategies when combined with Gunnebo’s infection control solution H-Sense (www.securitysa.com/10496r). When integrated with automatic access control gates, H-Sense denies entry if a user has an elevated temperature, is not wearing a mask and/or if sanitiser was not dispensed from the automated dispenser.

While OccuLinq is initially focussed on the retail market, it will also provide benefits to other market segments such as museums, theatres, office buildings, etc.
