E2V Technologies' new Argus 3 thermal imaging camera is claimed to be the most advanced fire fighting and rescue camera in the world. It is able to save vital seconds in scene assessment, sourcing the fire and locating and evacuating casualties from burning buildings, ships and planes. It also functions as maintenance and engineering instrument-monitoring motors, pipe work and distribution panels for potentially hazardous hotspots.
The camera uses an ASi sensor and a six-colour 100 mm LCD display provides flexibility in use. Up to 28 images may be captured and stored and later downloaded to a computer. Argus 3 withstands heat, water and impact and the onscreen graphics indicate battery, transmitter and channel status and camera condition. It features a x2 digital zoom facility for clearer scene assessment and the on-screen time and date function records training and incident reporting.
Typical applications include assessing the fire scene, search and rescue, capturing vital forensic evidence before it is destroyed, identifying the source and spread of the fire and navigating through smoke filled premises.
The optional spot temperature measurement function enables customers to identify and measure the heat source temperature, aiding fire scene assessment. Transmitter and receiver modules enable a live video to be viewed remotely assisting command and control centres.
