Comprehensive automation portfolio on show

March 2006 News Products & Solutions

ABB introduced its comprehensive portfolio of products, systems and services to industry in the Eastern Cape for the first time. At its stand (B25 and B26) at the Eastern Cape Industrial Technology Exhibition from 15 to 17 February 2006, ABB showcased its latest robots, instrumentation, drives, low voltage products, and condition monitoring maintenance services.

The products, systems and services portfolio at ABB is aimed at ensuring that ABB is a high-performance partner to increase plant productivity and save energy costs in a large number of industries including process industries such as pulp and paper, mining and minerals, metals, cement, petrochemicals and automotive.

ABB is one of the leading robot manufacturers in the world with close to 150 000 robots installed worldwide. On show will be the IRC5 controller, which with MultiMove software for multiple robot operation, offers shorter lead times, increased productivity and improved quality benefits. MultiMove helps set new standards in robot technology and opens up a range of applications that were previously impractical or uneconomical.

Instrumentation and analytics makes up an important part of the comprehensive ABB automation technology portfolio. Visitors saw live demonstrations that simulated realtime, plant-wide field instrument control. Instruments on show included pressure transmitters, paperless recorders, process controllers, and magnetic flowmeters.

Service and maintenance is critically important for industrial plants in South Africa. ABB offers a wide range of service including full maintenance asset performance, motor management and predictive maintenance. ABB demonstrated how its services help to reduce maintenance and insurance costs and prolong the operating life of machinery.

The low voltage systems business of ABB provides optimised automation and control in industrial plants. Some 30 years ago ABB engineered MNS, the first modular, low voltage switchboard. The separated functional areas, combined with the arc containment design, received immediate recognition.
