Aluminium-housed wirewound resistors

7 September 2005 Passive Components Information Security

ATE Electronics has available wirewound resistors with an extruded aluminium housing that provides superior heat conduction. The housing is deep-finned for maximum heat dissipation with natural or forced air convection. The gold anodised finish offers maximum resistance to environmental conditions. The resistors have a special moulding compound with high thermal conductivity. The winding is designed to give maximum core coverage and uniformity for even heat dissipation.

The core is made of ceramic steatite or alumina centreless ground, for maximum winding uniformity. The element is copper-nickel alloy or nickel-chrome alloy of determinated temperature coefficient, while the end caps are made of stainless steel.

The RB series resistors have an operative temperature range of -55 to +250°C. Derating is required for reduced chassis area and for high ambient temperature. E12 series resistance values are available, with higher or lower values range on request and in 1%, 3% and 5% tolerances. Power ratings from 7,5 W to 250 W are available. Overload rating is 5 s at five times rated power.

These resistors meet or exceed the requirements of MIL-R-18546 E specifications.
