Power factor correction capacitors

13 July 2005 Passive Components Security Services & Risk Management Products & Solutions

Power capacitors for power factor correction are used to reduce not only the reactive power but also the distortion (THDV/THDI) in the power line to improve and stabilise the energy quality. Previously, two 28 kVar capacitors had to be used in compensation equipment with a detuning level of 7% on a 400 V power line (50 Hz) in order to obtain a 50 kVar stage.

Epcos' new type of PhaseCap HD series has an output of 56 kVar at 440 V (50 Hz) and allows a 50 kVar stage to be implemented using only one capacitor.

Customer benefits include: reduced space requirement; lower cost as less material used; higher packing density per cabinet; time saved thanks to faster installation; proven MKK dry technology.
