High current ground integrity testers for electrical safety testing

6 October 2004 Test & Measurement Products & Solutions

Product safety compliance has become an increasingly important issue in the electrical goods industry. The electrical, motor-driven, and/or transformer-type market is enormous and literally tens of thousands of products are available to the consumer and to industry. User safety with regard to these products has become an area of prime concern as technology develops. Today's manufacturers and distributors continually strive to increase the safety standards of their products.

Spescom MeasureGraph has announced the release of two new QuadTech Ground Bond Testers. Designed for automated test or benchtop use, the Guardian 1050 provides current to 45 A to meet the most stringent standards, and the economical Sentry 50 Plus provides current to 30 A for less demanding applications.

Some of the features that make either unit ideal for verifying ground integrity of the product chassis and power line ground include:

Four terminal Kelvin connection with auto zeroing; programmable Hi/Lo limit for Pass/Fail testing; resistance measurements from 0,1 to 510 mΩ; internal storage of 99 test set-ups; remote Start/Stop and Go/No Go outputs; programmable test times; large graphic LCD display.

In addition to the higher test current of 45 A, the Guardian 1050 provides other essential features required in an automated test environment. An optional RS232 and IEEE-488 interface are available for remote control or the data logging as well as a printer interface.

Both models also offer a number of other features including, front panel lockout, programmable voltage level, compatibility with other testers, and built-in calibration. A NIST traceable calibration certificate and the Kelvin test lead set for connecting to the device under test, is included.
