Marantz Electronics in Japan has introduced its fourth generation highspeed optical inspection machine for the PCB assembly industry.
In addition to the company's previous generations, Model 22XCL introduces an industry unique 'Camera Concept'.
Intensive co-development between camera suppliers and Marantz, resulted in an AOI Camera with 1,2 megapixel resolution, 24 bit colour and very high speed. The new camera and optics combination boosts the inspection speed up to more than 200% compared to the previous generation and meets many large-volume cycle time requirements, it says.
With well over 2000 units sold, the history of the successful 22X series started in 1996 with a desktop configuration. In 2001, the second generation 22Xfw introduced the digital camera and solder paste inspection on top of component inspection facilities. True solder joint inspection on histogram base became possible with the third generation 22Xfv series.
In all Model 22X series, Marantz uses its proprietory Synthetic Imaging Technology, which it claims offers flexibility, easy programming and low false failure rates in both prototyping and large-volume production environments. The optics, based on a moving digital camera, dual lighting system and telecentric lens, captures high quality images at high speed. This high quality optical system combined with the advanced Synthetic Imaging Technology algorithms secure a very high level of failure detection power while keeping the false alarm rate well controllable and low.
