Choke coils have low differential impedance

With a volume of only 1,025 mm3, Murata's new common mode choke coils (CMCCs) for noise suppression in high-speed signal lines are said to be the smallest in the industry.

As products get smaller and their operating systems get faster, space for noise suppression gets tighter. Murata has designed CMCCs that it says are never thicker than 0,92 mm, with a nominal footprint of 1,0 by 1,25 mm and tight dimensional tolerances. Its external electrode pitch approaches that of IC pinch-pins at 0,55 mm. DLPSNs are the product of a combination of advance ferrite material and film micro-fabrication technologies.

Electrically, good common mode filtering is combined with low differential mode impedance, ensuring minimal impact on signal waveform. For example, the CM impedance of the 200 Ω version offers a differential mode impedance of just 10 Ω. Typical nominal values of 90, 120, 160 and 200 Ω are available, rated voltage is 5 V with rated currents between 130 and 160 mA. DC resistance is between 1,4 and 2,5 Ω, insulation resistance 100 mΩ minimum and the operating temperature range is -40 to 85°C.

As the terminal pitch allows PCB tracks to be laid out in straight lines matching the IC pitch, more space is saved and filtering is further enhanced.
