Wireless networking product expands mobile availability solutions

American Power Conversion (APC) has announced its APC Wireless Mobile Router and Card Bus, a wireless networking solution for mobile, home and home office environments that allow a PC or laptop user to access a network without a direct cable connection. Powered via the USB port (or the power adapter), the mobile router is completely portable and compact. The new product, one of the only mobile wireless solutions available, integrates into the company's APC TravelPower Case.

"Mobile professionals can find themselves physically restricted by cable connections to a network," says Carl Kleynhans, country general manager: Africa, at APC. "Not all environments have multiple networking ports to accommodate the networking needs of users. "The new APC wireless router offers an economical, compact, and portable solution with the ability for multiple users to have wireless access without a direct cable connection to the network."

The APC Wireless Mobile Router and Card Bus combination allows for a distance of 90 m between the router and card bus. It offers a 128-bit WEP security encryption, built-in firewall protection and an easy three-step setup. The APC Wireless Card Bus fits into a laptop's PCMCIA slot and provides wireless Internet access when used with the APC Wireless Mobile Router. It also can create a local area network for multiple users to communicate, share files and play online computer games using a single network connection. The solution also fits easily in the internal pocket of the APC TravelPower Case, which provides a USB charging port to power the mobile router.
