VoIP SLICs are highly integrated and require no high voltages

10 September 2003 Telecoms, Datacoms, Wireless, IoT Access Control & Identity Management

The Silver Telecom family of innovative 5 V Ringing SLICs take line interface circuits to new levels of functionality and performance. Silver Telecom has integrated the entire DC-DC converter function required for SLICs, directly into its Ag1160 and Agl460 SLICs.

This means that only a +5 V supply is needed. Conventional ringing SLICs typically need 48 V to power the line and 72 V to ring the phone. These voltages are generated internally on the new Silver Telecom SLICs. Using an external DC-DC converter can add about 200% to the SLIC cost in single line applications.

Key features of the Silver Telecom SLICs are: polarity reversal; on-hook transmission (for caller line ID); ringing generator; meter pulse injection; thermal protection for fail safe operation.

The company's Ag1160 is a single 5 V ringing SLIC. Providing exceptional 'time-to-market' benefits for the following low line count applications: VoIP and Internet telephony, voice over DSL (VoDSL): Computer telephony integration (CTI); ISDN terminal adapters; wireless local loop; cable modems; fibre to the curb; and small office/home office (SOHO) applications.

The company's Ag1460 is a quad 5 V ringing SLIC (four individual SLICs in a single device) in an easy-to-use SIMM format. This gives a high level of integration in a small footprint device, while retaining the 'time-to-market' benefits of the Ag1160. This makes it ideally suitable for 4 and 8 line applications such as: VoIP integrated access devices (IAD); xDSL IADs; small PBX systems; computer (PCI) linecards; digital loop carriers; and wireless local loop.

Benefits of the Ag1160 and Ag1460 include:

* Increased integration and ease of use means quick time-to-market.

* No need for 48 V battery or 72 V ringing voltage. Only +5 V needed.

* Significant cost savings.

* Small footprint gives increased channel density.

* Highly integrated - few components to source - easier logistics.

* Fully featured and easy to use.

* Works with any codec, in any country.

* Silver Telecom 'design-in' assistance and customer support.
