Vishay Intertechnology is offering what it claims is the industry's smallest fast-infrared (FIR) transceiver used for short-distance, wireless communication.
The TFBS6614 transceiver measures just 2,7 mm high - a reduction of more than 25% compared with other FIR transceivers on the market - while maintaining a typical communication distance of 1 m. Design engineers can use it to upgrade to faster data rates while making smaller and thinner handheld devices. Communicating at 4 Mbps, the TFBS6614 features 20-times faster throughput than serial infrared devices, allowing quick exchange of even large MP3 and MPEG data files.
Given Intel's Xscale embedded FIR controller, the transceiver can be adopted by the PDA market, and can also be used as the emitter for TV remote control, providing transmit distances equivalent to standard remote control emitters. For PDA and mobile phone applications, the TFBS6614 transceiver allows a low-voltage controller (to 1,5 V) to connect directly to the transmit, receive, and shutdown logic signals of the transceiver.
