Eight-port high-speed RS232 communication card

16 July 2003 Computer/Embedded Technology Surveillance Perimeter Security, Alarms & Intruder Detection

The PCL-858 interface cards from ProMicro provide eight RS232 serial communication ports, and each port can be configured individually using on-board jumpers. Both A and B type cards have two 16C554 UARTs which make serial I/O more reliable, while the high performance PCL-858+ card has two 16C654 UARTS.

The PCL-858+ is ideally suited for high-speed I/O applications under multitasking environments and for applications involving high data rates.

All cards in the series support automatic addressing for all eight ports. All channels share the same interrupt and an interrupt status register can be used to determine the interrupt source. The shared interrupt can be set to most common AT interrupts. This simplifies programming, speeds up interrupt processing and makes interrupts free for other devices.

Each card is supplied with DOS drivers, a PC-ComLIB serial communication library and a Windows 95/98/NT configuration utility. The PC-ComLIB package also includes the DataScope data viewer and terminal emulator with self-diagnostics utilities for easy troubleshooting and debugging.
