Mechanical pressure switches are being replaced by electronic devices in some applications, mainly due to their ability to incorporate multiple setpoints, precisely define the required deadband (set-reset differential), and provide local display.
Most offerings make use of switched transistor outputs, which are good for inputting to PLCs, and often require proprietary devices to program them. Blanes Pressure Solutions believes that its XS2100 breaks new ground in several important areas.
Firstly, the switches are heavy-duty solid-state SPDT relays, with a capacity of 7 A at 250 V a.c. or 30 V d.c. This is more than adequate for most alarm and control requirements. Secondly, the standard switch incorporates four such electronic relays, each individually adjustable for set and reset points. In non-critical applications, PSHH, PSH, PSL and PSLL can be handled by one instrument. No external programming device is necessary; all set-up can be done through the keypad, which is incorporated in the four-digit LED display offering kPa and MPa indication up to 70 MPa.
The switch comes in a cast aluminium enclosure rated IP65, with industry standard M20 x 1,5 electrical entry. The wetted parts are 316 stainless steel, with a 1/2" male connection as standard. Normal power supply is 18 - 36 V d.c., with a mains power option. Finally, to add to the switch's utility in non-critical applications, an isolated 4-20 mA continuous signal is made available for remote indication or control.
