ASIS SA introduces ‘tell-and-show’ conference

1 November 2018 News & Events

ASIS South Africa has announced a new format for its conferences in South Africa and is holding a Technology Concepts Day on 21 February 2019. At the conference, ASIS SA will offer delegates a chance to gain insights into the latest risk management standards and assessment frameworks as well as insights into what leading manufacturers are doing in the security technology arena.

The morning session will consist of presentations and workshops, while the attendees will be able to experience hands-on demonstrations in the afternoons as ASIS puts the manufacturers’ solutions to the test.

Says Dave Dodge, chairman of ASIS SA, “This event will not only focus on presentations and theory, but will include vendor demonstrations of how their technology performs in specific scenarios. In this event, we will focus on external areas, such as perimeter and open area security.

“The scenarios will be developed by ASIS International board Certified Protection Professionals (CPPs) and Physical Security Professionals (PSP) in accordance with ASIS standards and principles, and the vendors and manufacturers will then be able to build solutions with their products to demonstrate their effectiveness under real-world attacks. Attendees will not only be able to view the solutions in action, but also participate to provide them with a clear idea of how effective the solutions are in dealing with perimeter intrusions.”

Companies that have already confirmed their participation include:

De-Fence will demonstrate the effectiveness of its perimeter solutions against attack.

Security Radar will demonstrate a range of intelligent radar defence solutions that cover large areas.

iMAT is set to demonstrate the effectiveness of drones as a security detection and deterrence mechanism.

Active Track is known for its people tracking and monitoring solutions and the company will be demonstrating its latest solutions at the event.

Dodge says ASIS is expecting at least two more manufacturers to finalise their participation this week in order to ensure attendees are exposed to a full range of security solutions.

The ASIS all-day event will be held at the Serengeti Golf and Wildlife Estate on Thursday 21 February 2019. The cost to attend the full day, including lunch and refreshments is R500 for ASIS members and R2000 for non-members.
