A recent survey by the National Observatory of Crime and Criminal Responses (ONDRP) has found the number of armed assaults targeting ATMs and cash-in-transit vehicles and their staff has increased by 75% within the last two years. Société Générale, the second largest bank in France, behind BNP Paribas, has recognised this threat to employee and customer safety and is taking significant new security measures, using Grundig CCTV equipment.
“Banks, cash-in-transit and cash handling providers are being targeted by criminals and this type of crime can often be violent,” explains Andre Molinengo, Société Générale’s Alarm Monitoring Centre manager. Société Générale chose Grundig because of its high-quality products and because its systems offer the level of security required, without compromising the efficient day to day running of the business. Grundig has a comprehensive understanding of the current statutory requirements, for Molinengo, and its products and systems allowed Société Générale to meet all its legal obligations.
Société Générale has upgraded each of its branches to a digital video recording solution, each with local and off-site recording capability – this totaled 1200 recorders. 2000 internal (hidden) and external Grundig cameras have been added at branches, cash in transit and ATM points. The external cameras operate effectively, night and day, in busy town and city environments. The cameras also provide privacy zones when used in residential areas. Each branch is centrally monitored, so remote access and multiple, simultaneous user operation is enabled.
“We have implemented full HD video for evidential purposes. Combining video and audio detection technologies enables our operators to respond to incidents in real time. Verbal warnings to perpetrators can be given and a swift police response instigated when required.”
