Case story: UNO-2160 used in inspection machine controller

A customer was looking for a reliable and compact platform to replace industrial PCs. The customer needed two Ethernet interfaces for its 'Inspection Machine'. One interface was used for video data transmission and the other for enterprise system integration.
Since the existing visual inspection software was based on the Windows 2000 OS, the customer was looking for a compact, but also compatible, environment to migrate the system from the existing industrial PCs.
Loaded with visual identification software, Advantech's UNO-2160 was applied as an inspection machine controller. It replaces human labour and greatly improves efficiency in the inspection process of the production line. The UNO-2160 feedbacks all of the accepted/rejected records transmitted via the inspection machine camera to the enterprise material requirements planning (MRP) system, thus creating a seamless eManufacturing network.

The UNO-2160 is equipped with dual Ethernet ports. The video data from the camera was sent to the UNO-2160 through the Ethernet interface for quality identification. The inspection result and record was then transmitted to the manufacturing system through the other Ethernet port. Equipped with an Intel Celeron 400 MHz CPU, 256/512 MB SDRAM, and a 2,5" HDD expansion, the UNO-2160 could handle the customer's application, which was based on Windows 2000. Its compact mechanism also helped the customer save installation space.

UNO-2160 is a high performance 686-grade controller that supports PC/104 extensions, serial communication ports and several other networking interfaces. It comes with Windows XP Embedded OS, which offers a pre-configured image with optimised onboard device drivers. Windows XP Embedded delivers the power of the Windows operating system in componentised form, allowing applications to be seamlessly integrated.
