Safety Africa 2003 conference and exhibition

June 2003 News Residential Estate (Industry)

One of the major challenges facing the economy is keeping our workforce safe from harm - a right that is enshrined in our constitution. The cost to the economy of man-hours lost to injuries - not to mention the trauma to families and colleagues when a death occurs during working hours - is enormous. With the vast challenges facing the country in terms of training and expectations, it is no longer a 'nice to have' plan in some management drawer, but rather an urgent national problem that has to be addressed.

In August of this year, SAPEMA will host the Safety Africa 2003 conference and Exhibition. The exhibition and conference is the place for leaders in the occupational safety, health, hygiene and environmental industries to network, and obtain information and in-depth knowledge of services and products available. It is SAPEMA's objective to promote, encourage and protect the industry in southern Africa, assist and encourage co-operative action, deal with all such matters as may effect the common interests of members and represent the industry at all negotiations and dealings with the authorities and peer organisations.

Southern African Protective Equipment Manufacturers Association

SAPEMA membership is open to companies which manufacture, import or distribute products used to protect the employees from hazards in the workplace. These products include equipment and clothing worn by workers, as well as that equipment used to determine and/or to measure or indicate the presence of hazards in the workplace.

Conference

The conference will be held alongside the exhibition at Gallagher Estate and the topics will be aligned to protective equipment.

Industry profile

Agriculture, building, chemical, communications, electrical, emergency, fire, governmental, industrial, manufacturing, mining, petrochemical, pharmaceutical, processing, quality control, retail and water and waste sectors.

Key decision makers with purchasing authority will be invited to attend; these would include persons having any direct involvement with health, hygiene, fire and safety in the workplace.

Exhibitors would include any companies whose products and/or services are used by the occupational safety, health, hygiene and environmental industry.

Media and marketing

The exhibition, conference and marketing campaign is specifically directed to address a clearly defined audience. A quality driven media campaign in appropriate key media will be implemented to ensure a quality and desired quantity attendance. Widespread and clever PR activity throughout the build-up to the show will result in an outstanding turnout. The official journal for SAPEMA is National Safety.
