Total fire detection solutions from Ziton

March/April 2002 Fire & Safety

Ziton is a leading global designer, manufacturer and distributor of high-quality, professional fire detection and alarm systems. The systems are used for the protection of life and property in commercial, institutional and industrial buildings.

The product range incorporates the multisensor based Paradigm X range, the ZP3 Analogue Addressable system, the ZC Conventional system, Maestro Graphics software and a range of specialist detection products.

Paradigm X

This system provides the earliest warning of a real fire, with the discriminating ability to identify and eliminate false alarms. The system has a high level of immunity to electrical interference, and is environmentally friendly. The technology uses a multisensor approach, together with multiple algorithms which can be applied individually to sensors. In addition, this system has all the advantages of Ziton's analog addressable systems. This new technology has already been embraced by prestigious clients such as Daimler Chrysler SA, BMW South Africa, MTN, Old Mutual, Union Buildings (PWD) and the Fancourt Resort.

ZC Conventional

The Ziton ZC series is a range of fire detection systems utilising conventional detectors and control panels, designed to provide professional, reliable detection of fire at low cost. Proven, microprocessor-based hardware and robust software ensure reliable operation. The panel and detectors are continuously monitored for correct operation and the operator is alerted immediately in the event of a problem. Ziton conventional panels are designed for use with the comprehensive range of Ziton Z600 series conventional fire and smoke detectors, manual call points, sounders and auxiliary equipment. With this range of equipment a system can be fabricated that will meet most users requirements for a reliable conventional fire detection system. The sophisticated ZC5 range provides features, such as an LCD alarm display and serial link to repeater panels, not normally associated with conventional fire detection systems. The Ziton ZC range is an ideal entry-level system for companies migrating into the field of fire detection systems.

Maestro Graphics

Ziton's Maestro Graphics is a computer-aided operating and information system designed specifically for fire, security and emergency services. The Maestro computer is connected to an analog addressable fire system.

Although modern sensing systems detect the presence of fire, smoke or other dangers, at a very early stage, the management of alarms and responses is becoming increasingly complex. The Maestro system provides an effective and easy-to-use solution.

Graphically based on a system of building maps, the location and type of every device is clearly depicted by a series of icons. Icons may be custom designed and change colour or appearance to indicate the current status of all system equipment. The system also indicates the precise location of all events. Navigation tools provide rapid and easy movement through a variety of map structures allowing the operator to handle multi-alarm situations.

Specialist fire detection

Ziton also provides a full range of specialist detection systems which includes high sensitivity smoke detection (HSSD), linear beam smoke detection, flame detection and intrinsically safe detection systems.

The Ziton/Stratos HSSD range of aspirating detectors respond to fires during the pre-incipient stage, long before the generation of visible smoke or flame. The system has proven to be a most effective means of detecting smoke or potential fire in many high-risk environments, such as computer centres and control rooms. It is also effective in protecting high, difficult to protect areas, such as auditoriums, theatre stages, warehouses, as well as dusty areas such as paper mills.

The company's linear beam detection equipment is designed to provide effective early warning of smoke or fire in large areas such as warehouses, atriums and malls. Long range detectors provide linear protection over distances of up to 150 m, and are suitable for most environments. Specialised technology ensures freedom from false alarms and rapid response to the phenomena of real fires. Linear beam detectors are compatible with both analog addressable and conventional systems.

Ziton flame detectors are optical infra-red and ultra-violet units designed to provide a quick response to flames. Solar-blind, these detectors provide reliable detection for applications such as petroleum processing and handling, chemical, explosive and similar risks.

The Ziton Z700-Ex range of devices is designed for use in potentially explosive environments. The units are intrinsically safe and are certified by SIRA laboratories. These devices are designed for use with the Paradigm X and ZP3 analog addressable systems. Units available include smoke and heat sensors, manual call points and interface units.
