Interface with intrusion systems

Residential Estate Security Handbook 2016 - Vol 1 Residential Estate (Industry)

Elvey took the opportunity to promote its improved range of intruder detection devices – DSC’s Neo and Risco’s LightSYS. Both these products have an app, which makes them extremely popular on residential estates as self-monitoring is becoming a desirable add-on.

Ingo Mutinelli says that while estates are generally very well protected on the perimeter and have additional access control plus CCTV surveillance throughout the estate, more homeowners are requiring additional interaction with their alarm systems based on personalised accessibility.

With both the DSC Neo and Risco LightSYS, the system interacts with the user through an app on their smartphone and allows the homeowner to arm, disarm or partially arm the alarm; switch on lights and remotely open gates. Video verification can also be performed through this app for additional security. This is very useful when the homeowner needs to have a visual fix on their property or interact with persons on the property such as domestic workers or family members. In this way, the products bridge the gap between pure security and lifestyle enhancement.

Mutinelli adds that both control panels are hybrid, with a wired or wireless configuration for easy interface with third-party products. The DSC Neo is expandable to 128 zones and the Risco LightSYS to 50 and they both come with a range of wired or wireless indoor and outdoor detectors. Elvey has numerous reference sites in the residential estate sector throughout South Africa where this technology is successfully being used.

Mutinelli says that it was very interesting to learn about residential estate challenges at the event. He adds that the company does have interaction with estates through selected integrators and installers who rely on the company’s technical support and advice to assist in the design of customised solutions.

The ability to network more extensively with the end users in such a forum is an added benefit and also provided the opportunity for Elvey to showcase suitable technology. He continues that the company had a very positive response to its offering and has already provided a proof of concept system based on the event.
