Vicon's Canterbury pilgrimage

July 2002 Surveillance

Surveyor dome cameras together with a Nova V1466 matrix system from Vicon Industries have recently been installed in Canterbury Town Centre and surrounding areas including Herne Bay and Whitstable in the UK.

The project includes installation in shopping centres, car parks, council offices and swimming pools. The CCTV equipment together with other security measures has allowed Canterbury City Council to achieve secure car park status in many areas.

In total, 26 of Vicon's Surveyor 2000 cameras have been installed. The Surveyor units come from a tried and trusted product range with an outstanding pedigree.

Many of the cameras are the colour S2000-RW23 day/night dome which features a variable-speed drive, an environmental housing and a 23x day/night high-resolution camera/lens assembly with a clear outer dome.

Vicon has been working with Canterbury City Council since 1991.

The city CCTV system is administered from a civic office in the historic centre of Canterbury by local government officers working in close collaboration with police authorities.

The Vicon matrix in use at the control room is the V1466 model. This microprocessor-controlled system allows for systems with a minimum of 32 inputs and 16 outputs to a maximum of 256 inputs and 32 outputs with extensive tour sequence support. There is also provision for comprehensive titling and a built-in interface for control by a host computer, complete with a graphical configurator for a PC.
