Three brands for Forbatt SA

April 2017 News & Events, Surveillance

Forbatt SA is a successful South African business that has been operational for many years. One of Forbatt SA’s major focus areas was, and still is, supplying Forbatt Lead Acid batteries for application all the way from mining to the server room, solar farms, the home and more. A few years ago, the company added surveillance technology to the portfolio by introducing the Sunell brand of cameras and related equipment in the market.

The success of this brand and learning what the South African market requires has led Forbatt SA to solidifying its position in the local surveillance market by signing two new brands to its portfolio.

Forbatt SA celebrated the official launch of its new product line-up in March at upmarket events in Durban, Cape Town and Johannesburg. At the exclusive events, partners and end-users were treated to an exciting function in each location, with plenty of prizes, an introduction to the three brands, as well as an opportunity to view the various products in the demonstration areas. The event was kept moving with no small amount of laughter among the serious presentations by the host, Barry Hilton.

The portfolio of brands Forbatt SA introduced were Sunell, Kedacom and TVT. All the manufacturers have proven themselves in the international market and two of the companies are listed on some of the world’s largest stock exchanges in China.

Brand introduction

Introducing the brands, Forbatt SA’s Gino de Oliviera highlighted some of the strengths of each. Representatives from the manufacturing companies also delivered a quick overview of each company.

One of the brands, Kedacom, stood out because of its focus on innovation for niche industries, including the range of body-worn cameras as well as the recognitive intelligent technology for public protection and border control. Its laser PTZ also made a splash as it proved it could zoom in and focus on an image kilometres away. The Kedacom intelligent tracking PTZ also turned heads at the event. Kedacom is a listed company and its value recently hit the US$1 billion mark.

Sunell has been in operation for over 20 years and it continues to deliver aesthetically pleasing products which can be installed in even the most upmarket locations. The company has also designed the world’s smallest PTZ camera, all without compromising on quality. It has also made a name for itself in the thermal technology space, with solutions for fire detection that are being adopted globally.

Another new entrant to South Africa is TVT, another listed company in the Forbatt portfolio. The company supplies a range of cameras and related equipment and caters for small to large installations and projects. TVT is focused on delivering solutions that are easy to use and robust. They also unified solutions that incorporate all the user’s surveillance equipment and requirements.

A common thread among all three companies was their dedication to research and development (R&D). Kedacom devotes a remarkable 1500 employees (half its staff complement) to R&D, Sunell has 30% of its staff in this field, while TVT has over 300 staff devoted to R&D.

After the introductions, the entire Forbatt SA team was on hand, along with their international colleagues, to demonstrate exactly what the products could do in the real world. A brief presentation by Hi-Tech Security Solutions followed the demonstration break before Barry Hilton concluded the presentations and made everyone forget about business for a few minutes with his unique brand of humour.
