Panasonic has announced its soon-to-be-released Baby Monitoring and Home Surveillance kits, answering to the safety and security needs of consumers and expanding the delivery of its Home Network System in South Africa.

“The way that people use and interact with technology has changed,” says John David, Panasonic South Africa, sales & marketing manager (System Solutions and Communications Department). “Technology is no longer seen as a series of disparate devices, but rather as a part of the fabric of our everyday lives, supporting and enhancing everything that we do.”

The Panasonic Home Network System is a wireless system with a simple do-it-yourself setup that allows you, the customer, to create a powerful network of cameras and sensors in your home, and you can control them all with an easy-to-use app. The smart system also allows you to adapt and add to the system as your needs grow.

This smart security system is an ideal solution too for small business, or the home office setup, even monitoring holiday homes and the garden flatlet.

Today marked the launch of the first two kits in the Panasonic Home Network System. These kits are also expandable and customisable in line with customers’ growing needs and increased demand for digital home solutions.

In line with this, these two kits provide customers with the ability to integrate their home security and baby monitor with their phone, allowing them to control the features and expand their home system whenever they need to.

In addition, there are no monthly product subscription fees. The total cost of ownership is included in the purchase price, so both kits represent a once-off investment for users.

The Baby Monitoring kit is a preconfigured system that includes a hub and an indoor camera. It allows you to use your smartphone or tablet to watch live images and listen to your camera – even when you are not at home. You can also use the camera’s built-in sensor features to trigger a recording and send notifications to your phone. It also has night vision, five recorded lullabies and a two-way communication function.

“The baby monitor is so much more than an observation tool,” says David. “It allows visual and audio interaction as well as offering soothing music for babies, which can be controlled by the parents. It not only provides peace of mind, but also offers additional, remotely controlled parenting tools.”

The Home Surveillance kit is made up of a hub and two outdoor cameras, with option of adding a further two cameras. It allows users to use their smartphones to control, view and listen to their cameras using their phone or tablet, and to use their smartphones or tablets to make phone calls using their landlines. The sensor features in the outdoor cameras can be used to trigger the recording feature, call a pre-programmed number when the sensor is triggered or send notifications to a smartphone, tablet or cordless handset.

“The key differentiator for these systems is that they are smart,” says David. “Of course, home cameras and baby monitors are not new technology, but their intelligence and their ability to interact with users sets them apart. We believe that they provide a solution for every feature that parents and homeowners wish their home systems had.”

In line with Panasonic’s mission to make integration with technology as efficient and seamless as possible, both systems feature easy Wi-Fi setup, no monthly fees, one-push pairing and a free app for smartphone support. They are scalable and interference free. They also support long-range communication over distances of up to 300 metres, which means that users can place motion sensors in the shed, garage or outbuildings and be alerted when it is triggered.

There has been a lot of publicity lately about the hacking of these types of home security systems and baby monitors, and Panasonic has put a lot of thought into making sure that extra layers of security have been added to their systems. Both the Home Surveillance and the Baby Monitoring kit use the DECT ULE standard, which prevents devices from showing up on searches for Wi-Fi networks, to help curb hacker attacks.

“We believe that this system will offer home security with convenience and specific support for the very practical day-to-day safety and security needs and concerns that users have,” says David. “Our attention to detail combined with refined Japanese design and craftsmanship and a commitment to creating products that anticipate the needs of the customer are what set Panasonic apart.”

These products typify Panasonic’s approach, which is to deliver technology with value that enhances and enriches the quality of life of users, both in the home and office space.
