Portable explosives detection

August 2015 Products & Solutions, Integrated Solutions

The XCAT portable detection system, has arrived in South Africa and is here to deliver rapid, accurate results for detecting explosives, gunshot residue and narcotics, all from the palm of your hand.

Designed to screen an area or person quickly and effectively, law enforcement will benefit from the XCAT when used at crime scenes. This portable device gives security officials the means to test pills, powders, residue or liquids found on suspicious surfaces like suitcases, boxes, and packaging or even on hands. It will also assist ports, airports and national key points and customs in finding illegal explosives, weapons and drugs that are being smuggled into the country. The mining sector also sees benefits from the XCAT detection device, to establish whether unauthorised personnel have been in contact with explosives.

The complex XCAT is easy to use as it requires no calibration, maintenance, interpretation or colour charts and it eliminates the operator’s exposure to chemicals. It uses detection cards with specially formulated inks and software to identify if the tested substance is present, with results returned within two minutes. The XCAT is available exclusively through PSA Africa.
