RDC sets the standard

August 2015 Perimeter Security, Alarms & Intruder Detection

RDC has once again taken a proactive leap ahead in the highly competitive remote automation field with the launch of the much anticipated SMX unit. This is the natural evolution of the highly successful SMS unit introduced some years ago and now widely used by users both within and outside of the security industry.

The features that stand out in the new and improved version are, amongst others, an increase in inputs to seven, the ability to program up to 10 cellphone recipient numbers, communication with up to four base stations and up to 64 timers.

One of the bold changes is the introduction of the I/O expander module which adds six independent relays to add to the current two onboard relays. This provides an immense amount of user flexibility that takes the potential for the SMX well beyond the traditional markets and into new and exciting territory.

As well as the above additions, the designers have incorporated specific DSC panel controls which are specific to the SMX, there are new SMS command shortcuts which benefit the user from an ease of use perspective, unit programming access protection as well as intuitive message distribution. One of the groundbreaking and unique design features is the 'if-this-then-that' function. The SMX has the ability to be set up to react to specific events with a preset solution. One immediately realises that this takes the SMX out of the limited field of so many of the older products into newer and greener possibilities.

An example here would be of a user who needs to monitor water levels in a tank or reservoir. Should the levels drop to below a critical setting, the unit would be activated and could essentially both notify certain users as well as automatically turn a pump on to replenish the water levels. This is all fully automated and tracked through user updates.

Brand new user software through a sophisticated programming dongle is easy to set up and use, and makes for a quick and accurate installation. The SMX can accept up to 500 cell users which can in turn phone into the unit via a no charge call as the SMX will accept and terminate the call creating a 'missed call' or the user can SMS the unit.

Lastly, but not least, the ability to communicate full Contact ID (CID) has also been enhanced and termed Turbo CID. This speeds up the communication to levels not yet experienced in the security industry. The introduction of the SMX has been much anticipated since news of its impending launch was leaked a few months ago and RDC truly believes that once again, as the leaders and pioneers in their field, the bar has once again been set.
