Local and international expertise on display

March 2015 Retail (Industry), Conferences & Events

The Powell Tronics stand at the Retail Risk Breakfast was well attended and Melissa Jacobs, from the Powell Tronics Cape Town branch, says the company was able to develop good leads from the high quality people who attended the event.

The big news from the Powell Tronics stand was the prize the company sponsored, which was awarded at the end of the presentations. The prize consisted of a Morpho J-BIO fingerprint reader. The hardware was supplemented by an installation voucher for Powell Tronics’ Atom Core enrolment software.

Atom Core software was launched in 2014 as an entry-level Web-based biometric template distribution solution for Morpho readers. This program provides access from any location on a network and facilitates biometric template distribution to the biometric terminals on the network. There is no limit on the number of users enrolled or readers linked to the system, and basic reporting is provided. The lucky winner of the prize was Adriaan Bosch.

A popular product Powell Tronics was demonstrating on the stand was the Synerion Workforce management system. Synerion is an enterprise-level management application aimed at the retail industry as well as hotels and other large installations that have a variety of workers clocking in during the day in various locations. This WFM software is packed with features for the medium to large retailers and boasts an international install base that has been built over many years in this demanding field.

The company was also demonstrating Morpho’s new MorphoTablet, a compact touch screen device that guarantees secure mobile data operations using biometrics (fingerprint) and cryptographic functions. The tablet is a full Android system that can run any standard Android apps, with the addition of a host of security capabilities which made it a hit with visitors. Powell Tronics’s development department have had a number of requests for customised applications using this device, that will be made available to the market in the near future.

Impro’s Access Portal Lite, a Web-based access control system was also on display. Access Portal Lite is designed to be used as a hosted access control management system. Users access the system via a Web browser, meaning they do not need to install any software or a management PC on site.

Jacobs says there was interest in all the products on display, but the company was pleased to see the growing recognition of, and interest in Synerion.
