EOH SBT – striving for uncompromising quality

October 2014 Integrated Solutions

Founded in 1948 as a PABX systems and typewriter supplier, the security and building technologies (SBT) division of EOH branched out into photocopying machines in the 1980s and entered the access control market in the 1990s. After its purchase by the EOH Group in 2012, the company expanded its portfolio and currently comprises computerised time and attendance, facilities (access control and surveillance systems) and PABX/other leased products departments.

Business sustainability is driven by a five-fold philosophy: attracting, developing and retaining the best people, led by great leaders; nurturing lifelong partnerships with customers and business partners; ensuring professional planning and execution; transforming and celebrating diversity; and striving to be number one in every domain of operation, whilst remaining entrepreneurial.

EOH SBT employs 200 people throughout South Africa, 60% of whom are engineering technicians or high level engineers. The company has branches in Durban, Cape Town and Johannesburg, with satellite second tier facilities in Bloemfontein and Polokwane.

EOH is a Level 2 BBBEE supplier and holds certification from a number of well-known suppliers of integrated access control, surveillance, fire, BMS, PA/evacuation, visitor management, scanning/metal detection, biometric, wireless communication and intrusion detection products.

Sales manager Wayne Schneeberger points out that the company is a product agnostic systems integrator. However, he elaborates that the company has selected the leading reputable brand suppliers in each of their chosen areas of business, with which to align itself. “We build solutions to satisfy customer needs and we are involved from the requirement gathering and conceptualisation of the project, through design and implementation, to maintenance and servicing. In addition to bringing in third-party products we have also developed our own software technology, specifically S-Qube for time & attendance (T&A) and access control.”

Areas of systems integration emphasis include access control, CCTV, reticulation and PABX systems. EOH SBT has successfully completed a number of projects in South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, Tanzania, Zambia and Mozambique for a number of large, high-profile companies including the South African National Treasury, Value Logistics, Cornelder de Moçambique (the Mozambiquan ports controllers) and Transnet.

In addition to running a tight ship as far as quality is concerned, this ISO 9001 certified company places great emphasis on appropriate and adequate training. The company runs a fully equipped training centre where both employees and customers receive training on current technology. In addition, onsite training is provided to customers and employees are sent to overseas suppliers for training on products identified for future growth.

Most of the work is undertaken in a turnkey project management approach by the company itself, but where necessary, carefully selected subcontractors will complement the work undertaken by EOH SBT’s own indentured installation engineers, installers and project engineers.

The company’s maintenance team provides a nationally deployed round-the-clock service using fully equipped service vehicles. Support is supplemented with the 24-hour call centre. Maintenance contracts are specified as retained (SLA) maintenance, with either a permanent or part-time onsite engineer being in attendance; planned maintenance; breakdown maintenance and unscheduled maintenance.

The company is active in the mining, financial services, central and local government, retail, energy, manufacturing and logistics arenas throughout sub-Saharan Africa. Where required, the company ventures to global sites and works in conjunction with its international partners to provide customised solutions. Expansion into other African countries is aligned with parent company EOH’s growth plans.
