GreenBox provides PoPI compliance

The GreenBox has been developed to fulfil a need in the marketplace for a multifunctional device that can scan physical documents; identity documents, passports and drivers licences, can scan fingerprints and can capture electronic signatures as well as ID photographs.

The GreenBox hardware allows for seamless data management by incorporating electronic document capture in conjunction with other identity data capture such as fingerprint, portrait and signature. According to Suprema’s Walter Rautenbach, everything is linked through an easy step-by-step platform and since document and biometric data capture is done together, it reduces the risk of using separate hardware components that store information in different repositories.

All captured information is stored in one intelligent PDF document which can be encrypted and issued with a digital certificate that can be used to determine the origin as well as protect the personal data during transfer and storage. Access to data through secure encryption keys ensures that it does not fall into the wrong hands.

Furthermore, the data’s condition of use can be clearly displayed during capture so that the person whose details are being captured knows what the data will be used for and can confirm these conditions by means of fingerprint and electronic signature capture at the time. The fact that documents are originally captured, means that personal paper documents can be scanned and handed back to the client after capture, eliminating the need for PoPI compliant storage of physical paperwork.

In terms of PoPI, this means that all data can be securely stored together in one document and authenticity can be determined by a digital certificate; the conditions of use of data is clearly confirmed by the person and stored with the document; electronic document management eliminates the need for storing personal paper data, which is susceptible to breaches to PoPI through illegal access.

The GreenBox comes equipped with Suprema’s FBI certified BioMini Slim and has biometric capture and verification functionality which can be used for the verification of an individual as required by various acts such as FICA and RICA and financial market KYC requirements. The BioMini Slim also incorporates live finger detection and is ideal where identity theft needs to be prevented or the requirement to ensure an individual is who they say they are.
