CCTV puts access control, T&A in the picture

The inclusion of CCTV monitoring technology as part of a company’s access control and time and attendance strategy is a key emerging trend within business management.

“CCTV is increasingly being considered a necessary and value-added component of access control and time and attendance systems in business,” says Teryl Schroenn, CEO of Accsys. “Decision makers understand that the ability to monitor activity using CCTV technology, combined with information sourced through access control systems, is an effective strategy.”

The advantage of CCTV is that it offers users a frame-by-frame account of activity that will support information from the access control and time and attendance systems. This trend falls in line with emerging trends within the manufacture and rollout of identification technology in commerce – specifically the use of photographs and facial recognition systems.

Accsys says that fingerprint technology remains the dominant force within the integration of biometric solutions. This is because of its level of accuracy, its minimal impact on the business environment and low cost. At the same time facial recognition infrastructure is gaining impetus because of hygiene control issues.

In practice CCTV with access control and time and attendance systems mean users can rely on real-time reports along with images of all activity to see who wants to gain access, who is on the premises, where, when and why.

“Our view is that CCTV does have a role to play and is an integral part of an holistic approach to security systems,” Schroenn explains.
