Ethernet transmission

September 2009 Surveillance

HIGHWIRE turns any existing analogue video cable (co-ax) into a high-speed Ethernet connection. This allows multiple networked IP cameras to replace a single analogue CCTV camera without the installation of any new cabling.

Financially and time-wise, this is good news for anyone with a legacy system, considering that cabling tends to account for 30% to 40% of the installation costs. HIGHWIRE, which allows existing cabling to be retained and exploited for new-generation, networked CCTV (closed circuit television) camera systems, is especially well suited to mega-pixel IP camera applications or multiple IP cameras, owing to its ability to support high data rates.

HIGHWIRE makes it possible to operate to a maximum of 300 metres, with full speed at 200 megabit per second at 200 metres of coaxial video cable, which means entities are able to maximise the potential of their IP (Internet protocol) cameras.

In addition to its money-saving implications, it is also simple to install because HIGHWIREs are used in pairs. Connected to each end of the co-axial cable, they provide a straight network connection from end to end across the existing cabling. Since HIGHWIRE has no MAC or IP address, there is no set-up requirement.
