Make SureIT's secure

September 2004 Information Security

SureIT network management software from SymplisIT, monitors hardware and software as well as user activity in a networked environment. With this locally developed application, not only can network administrators monitor and manage the software and hardware installed on the company's computers, but they can also unobtrusively monitor the activities taking place on employees' computers.

Comprising two applications - one installed as a 'server' and one installed on the client computers - SureIT monitors the nature of the activity of the user on the workstation, including e-mail and Internet activity, recording the URLs or page titles of sites visited, titles and attachments on e-mails and all activities in PC applications. It can easily be seen what is work-related and what is not. Optionally, when the user logs in, a summary of his or her activities of the last period can be sent to them: thus allowing the users to manage their man-hours in a multiproject environment. This will also result in self-policing of user productivity.

The system can be set to allow remote access to the database, additionally reports, alerts, and exceptions to alerts can be set up and customised to actively flag actions, occurrences or conditions as required by the network administrators and operations management. As an asset management tool, SureIT can monitor the numbers of installations of licensed software to ensure compliance with licence agreements; unauthorised or casual software installed on networked PCs; any hardware that is installed on a PC; and changes in the hardware configuration for possible prevention of component theft.

This compact and easy to use utility assists any company to regulate and improve productivity by making control of non-productive activities easy and additionally automates and simplifies many network administration tasks.
