Reditron was formed following a management buy-out in 1991. Today, Reditron is the biggest importer and distributor of CCTV and access control systems in Africa.

The CCTV range is made up of cameras from many different suppliers from around the world as well as lenses, brackets, housings and control equipment. "We import from 43 manufacturers around the world and have over 7000 product codes on our stock sheets," says Reditron managing director, John Loftus. He adds that the company holds about R19 million in stock at any given time in its warehouses in Johannesburg, Durban and Cape Town, with a 98% stock availability on most products. Because Reditron airfreights everything into the country there is a maximum wait of 14 days on products that are not in stock.

Loftus explains that Reditron is not single-brand-specific and represents six of the top 10 security brands in the world. He quotes one of their slogans to back this up - "We do not have to adapt your needs to meet our products, we have got the products to fit your needs". The product line-up includes top brands Pelco, JVC, Sanyo, Dedicated Micros, Vista, Sony as well as Reditron's own ranges of Rediview and RediWORX.

Internationally, video over IP is gaining momentum and Reditron is at the forefront of this trend with product ranges available from Indigo Vision, IPIX, Pelco and a host of others.

Reditron's System Division undertakes design and specification requirements for all major projects. They have an enviable track record of securing large projects in all sectors of the economy including mining projects, parastatals, corporate, industrial, military, aviation, stadia, city centres, road and rail projects.

All system design, product testing and evaluation and repairs are done in the fully-equipped workshops and laboratories on Reditron's premises. The main branch and head office is based in Wynberg, Johannesburg. Branches are in operation in Durban, Cape Town and Port Elizabeth.

Reditron's staff are trained to the highest possible standards and the workshops manned by highly trained technical staff. Sales staff are trained to assist clients with choosing the right equipment for the application.

Reditron offers regular sales and technical training courses for both clients and end-users. It recently launched its new 'CCTV and access control for professionals' training programme to huge acclaim.

Reditron is a member of many professional bodies such as the Electronic Security Distributors Association, Johannesburg Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Council members), SA Security Officers Board, Central Business Districts Forum and South African Security Association.
