Two-door Power over Ethernet IP controller

June 2011 Access Control & Identity Management, Products & Solutions

CEM Systems, part of Tyco Security Products, has recently released an intelligent PoE+ two-door controller. The new CEM eDCM 330 (Door Control Module) uses Power over Ethernet Plus technology to power readers and heavy duty maglocks on two doors, using a single Ethernet network cable. This creates sizable cost savings and it eliminates the need to fit mains power supplies above each door.

PoE+ technology enables IP devices to receive power as well as data over existing local area network (LAN) cabling.

The eDCM 330 two-door controller is designed for use with the range of CEM AC2000 security management systems. It works in conjunction with a Midspan power injector between the AC2000 system server and the door and incorporates CEM technology, making it a robust and innovative PoE approach in access control.

The CEM PoE+ solution can reliably deliver up to 2 Amps to power an entire door set, including access control readers, heavy duty maglocks and associated items, all over one CAT 5/6 Ethernet cable.

The CEM PoE+ solution uses existing Ethernet infrastructure so that only one set of wires is required to be brought to the door, saving installation costs and time. By using existing Ethernet cabling installed at buildings, the PoE+ solution also eliminates the need for fused mains spurs and local mains power supplies in the electrical design of the building. This substantially reduces project installation costs as it simplifies installation and spares the expense of an electrical contractor.

The CEM PoE+ access control solution has been successfully installed at numerous security sites including Dublin’s Aviva Stadium, Glasgow’s Victoria and Stobhill Hospitals, UK and Marina may Sands Casino, Asia.
