Norbain SA launches 'eye in the sky' at opening of Nelspruit office

November 2010 News & Events

In line with its national expansion strategy, Norbain SA, a leading supplier of CCTV, access control and security systems in South Africa recently opened its office in Nelspruit.

John Loftus, MD of Norbain SA says: “Companies today are looking for world-class security solutions that have an impact on reducing crime. In our country where crime is the number one priority for businesses and consumers, the solutions that we offer customers are more than just security solutions, they offer peace of mind.”

Headed up by Norbain branch manager, Martie Saunders, the newly opened offices will be targeting local security installation companies offering security solutions to address the growing crime concern. Furthermore, the opening of the local office will mean that installers and customers alike will have access to the latest Norbain support and technical training that will allow them to keep up-to-date with international trends in security solutions.

“The Mpumalanga area is a key market for Norbain. The decision to open offices in Nelspruit is a strategic one and underpins our commitment to the area. It reflects a growing market opportunity and our customers will benefit from local sales and technical support, particularly for product demonstrations and specification advice. This office will be able to service all their sales and technical requirements,” says Loftus.

As part of the local launch, Norbain is installing a local CCTV camera at the busy intersection of Madiba Drive and the R37 offering free 24-hour surveillance to the community.

Loftus continues: “Installing the camera at this busy intersection is one way that Norbain is demonstrating its commitment to the local community. Police and crime fighting forces will have access to all video surveillance and footage should a crime be committed. Furthermore local authorities will be able to monitor motor vehicle accidents which will be reported to the police and made available to insurance companies as well as those involved.”

From a global perspective market research of the CCTV/video surveillance market has shown exponential growth for past few years on the rising concerns for security and safety across the globe. This, in turn, has been resulting in huge growth opportunities for CCTV manufacturers, installers and distributors. The global CCTV market is projected to reach around US$ 28 Billion by the end of 2013, at a CAGR of over 22% from 2010.

When discussing future trends, Loftus believes that network IP technology will emerge as the leading CCTV technology. Companies considering upgrading their existing infrastructure solutions face various technical challenges. Loftus explains: “The majority of older technologies are analogue-based while the newer technology is IP-based. However companies should not consider a ‘rip and replace’ strategy but should adopt hybrid solutions that enable both technologies to function optimally and thus keep costs to a minimum.”
